Would You Like To Have A More Natural Lifestyle?
That term “natural” is thrown around quite a bit these days, but what does it really mean?
Today, I will be sharing a few different ways that living a more natural/holistic lifestyle can benefit you. You may have heard some of these ways before since the words organic, holistic, and natural have become so popular over the last few years. The main points that I want to touch on in this post are eating a clean/whole foods diet, acupuncture, taking time to enjoy life, and aromatherapy. These are just a few steps that you can begin taking today to transition to a more natural lifestyle.
Taking care of yourself from the inside out starts with what you put into your body. Nutrition should not be taken lightly as it is literally your body’s fuel, it keeps your body functioning correctly. Eating more whole foods and drinking more water or detox teas can do wonders for your body and your mind. Whole foods means foods that are as close to their natural form as possible.
A whole foods diet is focused on fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains, and minimizes (or cuts out completely) the consumption of meats, dairy, refined foods/sugars and “fake” foods. Whole Foods are extremely high in beneficial fibers and fats as well as high in vitamins, minerals, and powerful nutrients that can only be found in plant foods. Foods that grow naturally from the ground are what you will want to focus on and not on those foods that have added chemicals and “extras” to make them taste or look more appealing. Farm to Table is becoming much more popular these days and there are so many true benefits to eating and living this type of lifestyle.
The second thing that is common in the holistic/natural lifestyle is the mentality of natural medicine before modern medicine. Now, this does not necessarily mean cutting out modern medicine completely, however, it does mean trying other things first and resorting to modern medicine as a last resort. Acupuncture is among the most popular ways of seeking out holistic/natural medicine.
Acupuncture is a beneficial way to improve your overall health and help you fight off any illness that might be trying to “attack” you. This practice is commonly used to treat and prevent diseases, physical body pain, digestion issues, migraines, and stress. Acupuncture can improve the body’s basic functions and promote the natural self-healing process by stimulating specific “acupoints”. The most common method used is when thin, sterile needles are inserted into the body very strategically to achieve different results. Other methods of acupoint stimulation are manual massage, heat therapy, cupping, and/or the application of healing herbal medicines to the skin. These methods should all performed by a professional who has been trained in these forms of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This is something I have always wanted to try as I have heard rave reviews of this method for years now.
Now, I want all of you to be sure that you are taking the time to enjoy your life. This honestly just means to really slow down and enjoy the events and people surrounding you. It is so easy to get caught up in multi-tasking and rushing from one thing to the next. Always looking on to the next day or the next project can sometimes leave you with extra stress and nearly no joy. Be sure to put the phone away when you are in a conversation with someone, or look up and watch your kids play instead of being stuck in your laptop or iPad, enjoy your accomplishments and celebrate them before moving on to the next task.
Life should be lived and not allowed to just pass you by. Be careful not to lose the sense of where you are going and why you wanted to get there in the first place. Be mindful of your time, your choices, and your words, they all have an effect on your mind and your sense of self. You can begin to transition from a fast-paced, overwhelming life to a life of thoughtfulness and intention by mindfully doing these things. Be sure that all of your time isn’t spent “planning” either. Life is what happens while you’re busy making plans.
First, focus on one thing at a time instead of trying to split your focus in multiple directions. Second, stop mindlessly scrolling throughout the entire day, set aside specific times during the day to check emails, scroll Instagram/Twitter, or check the news on your devices. Third, begin your mornings on the right foot. Set intentions the night before, what you will wear, what you will eat, give yourself plenty of time to enjoy your morning and not feel rushed.
The last point of this post is the use of Aromatherapy – Essential Oils. This is another aspect of natural medicine that is growing in popularity these days. Essential Oils are concentrated liquids containing aroma compounds from different plants. Aromatherapy is often used to reduce stress levels and improve sleep. The oils, when diffused and inhaled, can activate areas of your brain that improve your mood and make you feel happier, relaxed and calmer. Aromatherapy is a wonderful way to help you maintain a happy, motivated, productive mindset.
To sum things up a bit, eating a clean/whole foods diet, acupuncture, taking time to enjoy life, and aromatherapy are wonderful actions to take to begin living a more natural lifestyle. Focus on one thing at a time. Start with one change and get used to implementing it into your daily life, then add another and another until you realize doing each of this things becomes the norm for you.
I am also working on all of these things in my daily life. Taking it day by day. Join me and let’s do it together.
Lots of Love.
