Parenting Story – The Non-Insta Worthy Kind

Parenting Story

Let me just start by saying that I am very new to the parenting world. My son is almost 8 months old. So, I honestly don’t have a ton of parenting experience. However! The parenting experiences that I have had so far would make one heck of a mom-com movie for sure! (mom-comedy)

As I was thinking about what to write for this blog post, I was browsing some other blog posts about blog post ideas. Yes, they’re out there if you’re ever stumped! Anyways, on one of these posts, I saw this :

Some bloggers are known to boast about their children, or only write about their parenting successes. That can be isolating to new moms who may not feel like they have it all figured out.

So, yeah… that’s not me! Don’t get me wrong, my son is the most amazing thing on the planet! ( Are you really even a mom if you don’t think that though? LOL ) I am not perfect by any means and I believe the story I’m about to share will show you that!

Okay, so this morning at breakfast Hubby and I decided to have some of the watermelon we picked up yesterday. It’s our first this season. Well, Little Man has started “eating” little finger foods these days. Just baby friendly versions of what we’re eating usually. So, I decided to make him a couple little pieces of our watermelon.

Well, he was NOT having it.

He took one bite and proceeded to spit it a pretty impressive distance and it landed on my knee, the next piece got immediately thrown onto the floor, and the final piece literally landed in my shoe.

So okay, after the third piece Hubby and I looked at each other and we were just like, this is done. Maybe next month we’ll try again.

So we went about our morning, finishing our omelets and getting settled on the couch to do some work while Little Man played with his toys. Well, Hubby got up to do the dishes and left his bowl of watermelon sitting on the couch arm rest. I literally didn’t even notice. All I saw was Little Man wandering over towards that area but I didn’t think anything of it because he almost always makes his way to that corner. I was listening out, but didn’t hear anything out of the ordinary. Next thing I know, Hubby is saying to me,

Why aren’t you watching him!”

I tossed my computer on the couch and jumped up to see that Little Man had somehow reached Hubby’s bowl and watermelon is now EVERYWHERE, including all over Little Man’s face.

The bowl had landed on a cushion we have down on the floor for Little Man since he likes to fall these days and usually his head takes the hit. So that’s why I didn’t hear anything. Plus when this Little Man gets quiet, something is usually up. But I was IN my computer y’all, not 100% focused on him like I maybe should’ve been. So, yeah… parenting fail.

I gotta say though, it was freaking cute!

Little Man was COVERED with watermelon, the cushion is now stained, and I feel like I failed a bit as a Mama. So yeah, not perfect by any means. But at least I know Little Man does like watermelon now, at least the juice anyway LOL. We had a good laugh, got him cleaned up and went about our morning.

But, Little Man sure got me good about 2 hours later when I decided to have my watermelon bowl. Since I remembered the incident with Hubby’s bowl earlier, I offered Little Man little tiny pieces of my watermelon as I was eating too. In my mind, we were sharing and he was Loving it. He’d finish a piece and start bouncing up and down while holding onto my leg and making little noises as if to say “Give me more Mama!” So, I obliged and continued giving him little tiny pieces thinking he was loving the watermelon just as much as I do. I was feeling so happy as a Mama.

Until about 10 bites in.

I started seeing little red pieces in his mouth when he would open for the next bite. I looked closer and OH MY DAYS!

Boy had been “chipmunkin” me! He was sucking all the juice out of the watermelon pieces then “storing” the pieces in his cheeks. I think I got out every single piece that I had given him, pretty sure he didn’t even swallow one!

So yeah, twice in one day… I’m a Mom, I am real, Baby Boy is 8 months old and got me good. Can’t wait to see what the rest of our days hold LOL.  God I love that Baby Boy.

Do you have any parenting stories? Maybe a parenting fail story? Let me know in the comments!

Lots of Love,
